Consider this: The standard Platinum card offer is now 80,000 points for the same spending needs and without a $200 credit for spending you make in the first three months.

But remember, since this offer is only available through current Platinum cardholders' personal referral links, you'll need to find a friend to apply. This offer is targeted, so not all current cardholders have the sharing offer.

Get an offer worth 125,000 or 150,000 through CardMatch

If you are not familiar with itmatching letters, it's a tool from creditcards.com and it works like this: Enter some basic personal information and the last four digits of your social security number, and CardMatch will match you with some recent credit card offers that you're likely to get approval for -- sometimes withlarger bonuses than those available through public channels.

Soft credit requests do not affect your credit scorebecause they are not tied to a specific loan application. However, keep in mind that there is no guarantee that you will be approved for the options offered by CardMatch. It only improves your chances.

In recent years there have been a number of different targeted offers for the American Express Platinum Card through CardMatch. CardMatch users can get an offer of 100,000, 125,000, or even 150,000 points when they spend $6,000 in the first six months of card membership.

Please note that this Platinum card offer through CardMatch does not include a statement credit of up to $200 for any spending made during the first six months of your card membership. That makes the aforementioned personal referral offer, available until June 7th, a significantly better option for at least the next week.

But in the long run, CardMatch is a great place to look at certain Amex Platinum offers.Remember: the offer is targeted and therefore not available to all CardMatch users.

See below if you're the target of a special Amex Platinum card offer through CardMatch!

Try an incognito browser for a bigger Amex Platinum bonus

Sometimes the key to getting the best bonus is simple:Just open an incognito window in your web browser, search for "Amex Platinum Card" and open the page- or onlyTry opening this link in an incognito window. That's what I did this morning and that's what I found

It's a bit silly, isn't it? Try opening an Amex Platinum card in a regular browser window and you'll get an 80,000 point bonus after spending $6,000 in six months. Open the same page in an incognito browser and you could earn almost 60% more points, or more - we've even seen bonuses on the Platinum card of up to 150,000 points in the past.

These are the games Amex plays. And even then, it is not certain that you will get a bonus of 125,000 to 150,000 points this way: some of my colleagues have still seen 80,000 points or 100,000 points using the same method.

But it's easy to check and worth a try!

100,000 points + x10 points for restaurant expenses via Resy

You don't know Resy? It is a website and mobile app that allows users to discover restaurants and make dinner reservations. In 2019Acquisition of Resy by American Expresswith plans to add exclusive access to meals and rewards to the bank's mobile app.

One of the positive aspects of this acquisition is the specific welcome offers for Platinum and Gold cardsWeb de Resy.

If you apply for the Platinum Card through Resy, you will receive an offer from100,000 points after spending $6,000 in the first six months of card membership. But what makes this offer unique and (potentially) worth considering is that it isEarn 10x more points per dollar spent at restaurants worldwide, up to $25,000, for the first six months of your card membership. Considering the Platinum card usually only gets you 1x point per dollar spent at restaurants, that could be a pretty good deal.

If you spent a maximum of $25,000 on restaurant expenses in the first six months, you would end up earning an additional 250,000 points on top of the 100,000 points you would earn if you spent $6,000 in six months. If you add it all up, there are potentially 350,000 points on the table.

But even if you spent just $5,000 at restaurants in the first six months, that would be another 50,000 Membership Rewards points on top of the 100,000 you get as part of the welcome offer. It's an offer worth considering if you spend heavily at restaurants. So it's easily one of the best deals you'll find with the Platinum card.

final thoughts

If you apply for the Platinum Card through Thrifty Traveler, another travel site, or even American Express, you'll receive an offer of 80,000 points after spending $6,000 in the first six months of card membership. As you can see above, this is far from the best deal you can get right now... and Amex hopes consumers don't know that before they apply.

There are just a lot more bonus points for welcome offers as long as you know where to look.

Amex loves to play around with these offers. Case in point: my three colleagues and I were sitting next to each other in the office looking for the Amex Gold card in an incognito browser (or click this link).

One of us received the standard welcome bonus of 60,000 points after spending $4,000 in the first six months of our membership, while one of us received 75,000 points for the same spending requirement. Two of us got lucky: 90,000 points for spending $4,000 in three months.

In this case, the maximum you can earn is 75,000 points after spending $4,000 in the first six months. That's a lot better than the 60,000 point offer for the same spending need you can find publicly, but not as good as the 90,000 point offer with up to $200 in statement credit through personal referrals.

That said, it's still a good place to start looking for a cheaper Gold Card deal, especially if the personal referral offer goes away after June 7th.
